Registration of internet keywords in China
In China, registration of keywords in Chinese ideograms and Latin characters is a new rising business tendency since a few months (see our article). The purpose of these keywords is to make the navigation on the web easier for Chinese users by matching a keyword with an URL.
The keywords containing ideograms can be costly compared to the gain of visibility. In fact, it is restricted to the Chinese territory and users whose ISP (internet service providers) are technically qualified to translate internet keywords into URLs.
Though the approach of these registrars appears to be legitimate, some of them do not hesitate to use litigious and aggressive methods to force registration for these internet keywords, but also for IDNs.
